Emma’s Artistry

My mom baked a lot of bread in her lifetime. Her flour came in 100 pound sacks and when they were empty she often sewed a dress from the colorful flour sack. She usually baked at least 12 loaves at a time because we rarely ate store bought bread. It was delicious straight out of the oven with homemade butter and jam or the one I liked was butter and brown sugar on warm bread. It was as good as dessert. I painted this portrait of her from an old black and white photo and I won an Honorable Mention ribbon at one of our shows. It is now in the collection of Patricia Lindberg in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
